Peace Is Also True

by Laurie Reiche

Glimpse of the silver harbor

through Douglas Firs

and an orchestra of bare leaves

along the only road.

Lip of morning light

far off above the Sound.

Stillness of the drowsing fish.

But there's a party going on

inside the Golden Rain tree,

frat house to the Anna hummingbirds, a bacchanal

within the emerald leaves as the birds down shots

from the blossoms' lemon-yellow goblets,

the Annas zip and twirl

while across the world chaos brews.

But this peace that surrounds me,

this is also true.
