Kentaro Herder is a Navajo poet. Language was a barrier between Kentaro and his grandmother, Lily. In quiet afternoons, they held knife sharpened pencils while he wrote the ABCs, and she drew spirals for her next wool-rug design. Spiraled tongue, this is how he met poetry.
